233. taj mahal at the break of dawn

built in the memory of a love lost

more than three hundred and fifty years ago

a gigantic white marble mausoleum stands in harmony

a centerpiece to the surrounding symmetrical gardens

greenery and delicate pools of water invite calm reflection

in the midst of a chaotic and filthy city

overrun with poor people trying to make a living off of tourists

the problem of the stark contrast of india’s poverty and wealth

seems to have an old and long running history
