an arrestingly beautiful bird

the bobo, as we call it in costa rica, is a part of our national treasure

piercing red eyes surrounded by blacks and brilliant blues

they give way to a body of greens, browns and yellows

down to a dark tail that swings back and forth

left and right

like a pendulum keeping time

i am lucky to have grown up with these birds

they have taught me, among other things, about the limitlessness of beauty that abounds in nature
